KAMPUNG SUNGAI HAJI DORANI HOMESTAY, SELANGOR
MALAYSIA
MALAYSIA
Main Attraction: Scenic paddy field and traditional activities
In early 2012, I entertained a friend from Malaysia and her cousin from Canada. I brought them to a place called Sungai Dorani Village at Sungai Besar district, in Selangor, Malaysia. The reason I brought them there because Sungai Dorani Homestay is popular with its spectacular view of paddy field and fireflies tour nearby.
The highlight of the excursion was staying with the villagers in a wooden house next to a superb view of paddy field. As Malaysia is a tropical country with breathtaking natural attractions, I entertained them to a simple village life with a scenic view of paddy field and beautiful village houses.

Not only were they staying in a village house, they also tried local delicacies like spicy coconut rice served on a banana leaf, fried fish, chicken curry and not to forget, a local Nata De Coco (a desert made from fermentation of coconut water, originally from the Philipinnes. Went to the factory and treated with a full tour in English!

They were also taken to a night walk along the village area, visited local manufacturer's factory (like tapioca chips, banana chips, etc). At night, I also asked the village people to take us to a nearby Bernam River to see the scenic view of fireflies at night along the river. Beautiful! - No pictures, I am sorry.

It was also the first time, my tourist friends tried the local batik painting, supervised by the village folks. Malaysian Batik is a textile art, mostly of leaves and floral design.
If we had more time, I myself, would like to demonstrate a local martial art named 'Silat' or in Indonesia it is called 'Pentjak Silat'. I learned one type of silat called 'Silat Seni Gayong' from a school nearby years ago and I can assure you that the moves are deadly but beautiful at the same time!

What makes rural tourism even more exciting is the entrepreneurial activities the village folks take part. All the family members took part as you can see from this picture :)

Adults and kids, all take part in this enterprising activity. 'Kuih Siput' in the making. |

There are other activities that my tourist declined to participate such as 'Gogoh Ikan' or catching fish the traditional way after paddy is harvested. I hereby attach some pictures of others participated in this activity

Our trip was concluded on the night before we depart, with us treating the hosts with some fresh and cold Nata De Coco at their house (just beside our village chalet). Thank you Haji Yatim and family!
